A History of The Kuwait Towers' Construction And Completion
The construction plan for Kuwait Tower originated in 1962, less than a year after Kuwait's liberation from British rule. In 1975, the Kuwaiti government signed a contractual agreement with a distinguished Swedish architectural firm. The objective was to create a design for the Kuwait Towers that would reflect the essence of traditional Kuwaiti architecture. Four years later, the Main Tower was opened to the public, serving as the main public attraction of the Kuwait Towers.
However, the towers endured a tragic period during the seven-month Iraqi occupation that commenced on August 2nd, 1990, when Saddam Hussein's forces invaded Kuwait. This dark episode left a devastating impact on the country, including the Kuwait Towers. The occupying Iraqi soldiers deliberately damaged the towers' electrical utilities and interior facilities. They simultaneously inflicted exterior harm through gunfire and shrapnel, attempting to erase all traces of an independent Kuwait.
After this period, the Kuwait towers' damage was estimated at around 75 percent. Fortunately, the dedicated efforts to restore the towers from late 1991 to 1992 were worthwhile. The towers' essential technical, as well as comfort facilities, were restored to their original state. The refurbishment undertaking incurred an estimated cost of KD 2 million. Finally, on December 26th, 1992, a moment of immense pride swept through Kuwait as the Kuwait Towers were joyously reopened to the public. Leading the celebratory occasion was Nasser Al-Roudhan, the Finance and Planning Minister at that time, marking a triumphant milestone in the history of the towers and a testament to Kuwait's determination.

A Unique Architectural Design of Kuwait Towers
The magnificent Kuwait Towers were built in March 1979, encompassing an expansive area of 38,000 m². The design of the Kuwait Towers combines contemporary architectural principles, advanced Western technology, and intricate traditional Islamic patterns. This fusion of influences has created an architectural masterpiece that stands proudly as a symbol of Kuwait's cultural heritage nowadays and its thriving modern prosperity. This architectural ensemble comprises two major and a minor tower, each contributing to its distinctive allure.
The main tower, standing tall at a height of 187 meters (614 ft), consists of three integral components: the Ground Floor, the Main Sphere, and the Viewing Sphere. Within this towering structure, visitors can visit renowned signature restaurants, fancy cafés, and elegant reception halls. The most fascinating part may be the viewing sphere, which rises 123 meters above sea level. It gracefully completes a 360° rotation every 30 minutes, encased within a glass pavilion, allowing visitors to indulge in breathtaking panoramic views of Kuwait City, its enchanting surroundings, and the serene azure waters of the Arabian Gulf.
The second tower serves as a significant water reservoir, standing impressively at 147 meters in height. Its primary function is to store and supply water for various needs. On the other hand, the third tower plays a crucial role in illuminating the two larger towers and providing essential electricity to specific areas within Kuwait City.
